The beginning

The first Italian Riesling of our small winery was made in 2005. Without experience, but with love, attention, care. It became a wonderful drink. It is an eloquent proof that the wine is already born in the vine; healthy fruit of an old but intact grapevine, fermented into wine by human love. In our grandfather’s small blue-and-white cellar, a lot of wine has ripened since then, waiting for his host to have a good drinker who smiling to think that he was in a place where he was welcomed, offered good wine, and longed to go back there.

The place

The Muzsla vineyard is the warmest and most special place of production in southern Slovakia. The grapes grown on the southern slopes of the Muzsla hills, formed in a triangle enclosed by the Garam and Danube rivers, produce exceptional wines with a unique taste. The soil of the vineyard, which rests on volcanic foundations, is loess, calcareous and has a high mineral content. Because of this, wines from Muzsla have a high mineral content, the sugar content of the grape crop is ideal, sometimes higher than usual, so late harvesting is also common.

The grape

We currently farm nearly 2 hectares. Our vineyards are located under the Nagyhegy and Nagyhegy vineyards. Some of the grapes planted are nearly 50 years old, and our grandfathers planted them on the steep, south-facing hillside. The variety composition consists of the Green Veltelini, Italian Riesling, Királyleányka and Kékfrankos grape varieties typical of the Muzsla vineyard. Wines made from the grapes of the old grapevines  are mineral, and rich in flavor.

The grapes are grown on low and medium-high cordons, leaving a new branch per grapevine per year, pruned into 4-5 buds. During the year, we try to create the right microclimate for the bunches of grapes with frequent “green work”. We also reduce the yield of grapevine that is not overloaded by “green harvesting”. The result of a low yield is a 1.5 to 2.5 kg grape, depending on the variety.

The wine

We are believers in traditional winemaking. We believe that the quality of wine is determined by the grape and the winemaker together.Winemaking begins in the vineyards. If we take care of it all year round, then it will thank you with a wonderful harvest.

We are one of the founding members of the Parkan Granum Terroir Winemaking Circle. Our main guideline is to make our wines exclusively with the use of grapes grown in the wine region, without additives that affect the character of the wines, with the most physical preservation methods, which are basically physical oenological methods. We also try to keep the amount of sulfur added low.

The cellar

Our grandfather built his small cellar for his family along the main access road to Muzsla vineyard, in the triangle closed by Nagyhegyi út and Mélyút. He first built a small press house above the tiny wine cellar, with a small warming room, and only a few years later was an upstairs room with a terrace built on it. The capacity of the cellar is only a few barrels, and it is best suited for storing red wine.

The cellar has recently undergone a minor refurbishment, while retaining its rustic character. Its white-blue walls evoke old customs. My grandfather once whitewashed the outer walls of the small cellar, which he painted with a broom dipped in blue paint powder at a height of 40 cm above ground level.

The flower-grass area in front of the cellar is a great place for a summer picnic.

A section of the EUROVELO 6 cycle path passes under the vineyard, so our small cellar is easily accessible by bicycle, but even by other means of transport or on foot. For people who like to hike, the Muzsla vineyard is the paradise on earth itself; diverse vineyards with beautiful views.

The wine tasting

In summer there is a real picnic atmosphere on the Muzsla vineyards. We hold organized wine tastings, usually by personal arrangement, but our guests who accidentally pop in do not leave with a bad taste either.

In winter we can accommodate smaller groups with a maximum of 10-15 people.

Tasting packages can cost between 10 and 35 EUR, but may vary depending on the number of participants. For this reason, a personal consultation is absolutely necessary, both in terms of the timing, the choice of the tasting package and the number of participants.
